BIG SKY QUILTS CLASSES

Registration for classes can be in person, by phone or on-line. You must be paid for a class to receive a class supply list. When you register on-line for a class you will receive a follow up e-mail with the supply list. If you want to use a classroom machine call Big Sky Quilts to reserve a machine and make arrangements to learn how to use the sewing machine. You need to be familiar with the sewing machine you are using, including threading the machine and winding a bobbin.

 

Stash Buster Club

Join us and get ideas to use that fabric you just could not live without, and is still in its store bag

Bring your own machine or use a classroom machine. Bring fabric and sewing/quilting supplies.

 

Open Sew

Our classroom is available for quilters to come and work on those UFO’s in your closet. Every Wednesday from 1 pm to 8 pm you are welcome to come in and work. Cutting tables and irons are available. Bring your own machine or use a classroom machine. You will need to purchase needles and bobbins if you are using a classroom machine or bring needed accessories with your machine. Please call the shop at 727-1757 to be sure the classroom will be available.

Quilting 101

Quick and Easy Table Runner

Let your creativity run wild to create this table runner. Alternating 2 ½” strips and 2 ½” squares create a unique table runner to fit your table. Using a rotary cutter to cut strips and sew together with a consistent ¼” seam allowance construct the table runner top. Be sure to measure your table prior to class. This is a great project for beginners or a quick project for the holidays or a gift. Instructions will be given at class, no specific pattern required.

Quilt as You Go Runner

Make a seasonal table runner using 2 - 3 inch straight cut strips set on the diagonal and a 6 or 7 inch fussy cut square for the center focus set on point. Center of runner will change diagonal direction of strips. Runner top size is approximately 14 ½ x 36 inches.

Ruler of the Month Club

Get exclusive ruler kits and tutorials delivered straight to Big Sky Quilts each month! The Long arm Ruler of the Month Club is great opportunity to challenge your quilting skills and build ruler work confidence. Each month in the six-month series features a debut acrylic ruler paired with mentorship from your local shop, step-by-step video instruction and design ideas. The October ruler is the HQ Hexie 3 Template.

 

Dates: October 20, November 17 and December 15, 2018,

January 19, February 16 and March 16, 2019

Time: 1:00 to 4:00 pm

Cost: $29.00 per month, $174.00 for all 6 rulers for a savings of at least $6.00 per ruler.

Receive a different thick Long arm ruler and facilitated instruction by a fellow quilter. These rulers are not available for general sale until the conclusion of the Ruler of the Month series.

Using the Villa Rose “Native” pattern select 4 fat quarters, 1 blender fabric and a focal fabric to construct this easy table runner top. This bright and cheerful table runner will add to your seasonal decorating. Easy construction will allow you to be creative with your fabrics.

Holiday Dressing Tree Skirt

Whatever your style, from elegant to traditional make this skirt the perfect accessory for your tree.

 Choose a main print, two accent pieces and a coordinating light fabric for the construction that makes the design pop. Construction uses a variation of the Card Trick block. There are no Y seams and assembly is really quite easy. Class is for the confident beginner as well as the experienced quilter alike.

 With clear instructions and great graphics to guide you every step of the way, this deceptively simple tree skirt is easy enough to make for a quick gift. Class will make the small 42” tree skirt.

November Classes

 

Silver Star

Based on the Villa Rosa Designs “Silver Star” pattern make a 32 inch x 42 inch table mat or wall hanging featuring a large star and pieced top and bottom border. This project is quick and easy and a great opportunity to perfect your precision sewing skills. The technique used will be sewing cut bias or using a “no waste” method to make a star.

Ombre Lap Quilt

Make an easy and colorful lap size quilt top to brighten your comfort during the long winter evenings. Made with 2 ½” strips of 13 different fabrics, including 4 colorful prints this quick and easy projects will be approximately 55 x 70 inches. This class is designed to use your imagination working with color decisions, brushing up on straight seams and pressing techniques.

A helpful technique for transporting a “work in progress” project will be included. You will need to bring a flannel backed vinyl table cloth approximately the size of the quilt for this technique.

Crazy Christmas Trees

Are you tired of traditional Christmas Trees to be quilted? This class is an opportunity for you to create a fun and modern design for a table runner with blocks stitched horizontally or vertically and make a fun door hanger. Class requires a Creative Grid Spider Web Quilt Ruler and a Creative Grid Quilt 16 ½” inch Square Ruler.
