BIG SKY QUILTS CLASSES

Registration for classes can be in person, by phone or on-line. You must be paid for a class to receive a class supply list. When you register on-line for a class you will receive a follow up e-mail with the supply list. If you want to use a classroom machine call Big Sky Quilts to reserve a machine and make arrangements to learn how to use the sewing machine. You need to be familiar with the sewing machine you are using, including threading the machine and winding a bobbin.

 

 

 

Stash Buster Club—December 14, 2018

 

2nd Friday of each month        1:00pm to 4:00 pm, $10.00

Use those small pieces of Christmas Fabric to make easy ornaments.

Join us and get ideas to use that fabric you just could not live without, and is still in its store bag

Bring your own machine or use a classroom machine. Bring fabric and sewing/quilting supplies.

Our classroom is available for quilters to come and work on those UFO’s in your closet. Every Wednesday from 1 pm to 8 pm you are welcome to come in and work. Cutting tables and irons are available. Bring your own machine or use a classroom machine. You will need to purchase needles and bobbins if you are using a classroom machine or bring needed accessories with your machine. Please call the shop at 727-1757 to be sure the classroom will be available.

Ruler of the Month Club

Get exclusive ruler kits and tutorials delivered straight to Big Sky Quilts each month! The Longarm Ruler of the Month Club is great opportunity to challenge your quilting skills and build ruler work confidence. Each month in the six-month series features a debut acrylic ruler paired with mentorship from your local shop, step-by-step video instruction and design ideas. The January ruler is the HQ Hexie 3 Template.

The Ruler of the Month Club will not be meeting in December.

Dates: January 19, February 16 and March 16, 2019

Time:1:00 to 4:00 pm

Cost: $29.00 per month, $174.00 for all 6 rulers for a savings of at least $6.00 per ruler. Receive a different thick Long arm ruler and facilitated instruction by a fellow quilter. These rulers are not available for general sale until the conclusion of the Ruler of the Month series.

 

Whimsy Winter for Machine Embroidery

Use your embroidery machine to create this charming 16 by 38 inch wall hanging, table runner or bench pillow. Two snowmen faces, a penguin face and snowball blocks are pieced and applied using machine embroidery to the background fabric. A CD with full instructions and pattern is used to guide you through the construction. The CD also includes SVG files for Personal Electronic Cutting Machines. Participants need to bring their own embroidery machine. A Brother Dream Machine with a 9 x 14 hoop is best but there are options for using a smaller hoop 6 x 10 (will require more hooping). Other machines are welcome, must be familiar with the operation of your embroidery machine. Kit is available including CD. Class size maximum 6.

Quilt as You Go Runner

Make a seasonal table runner using 2 - 3 inch straight cut strips set on the diagonal and a 6 or 7 inch fussy cut square for the center focus set on point. Center of runner will change diagonal direction of strips. Runner top size is approximately 14 ½ x 36 inches. Pattern available at class for purchase from instructor for $6.00.

Penguin Party Pillow

This class will be the opportunity to work with small pieces and flannel while learning some tips and techniques to make this fun and easy pillow before making 12 to 20 penguin blocks for a quilt. 2 options for finishing the 20 inch pillow will be included, pillow flap or zipper.

Kit is available for purchase with fabric sufficient to construct the 60” x 66” lap quilt with 20 penguin blocks. Backing and binding not included. Enough fabric for the penguins is in the kit, an additional 1 yard of background will need to be purchased.

Block is constructed using basic techniques of strip piecing, chain piecing and flip and stitch. Even the most experienced quilter will be challenged with the construction of the face unit, stitching 23 pieces together to form the 4 ½” x 5 ½” cute face unit. The same techniques will be used to construct the body units of the penguin.

Using your Scan N Cut - Paper

Join us for a fun and easy class to learn the basics of the versatile ScanNCut machine. Learn the basics of updating your machine, access the CanvasWorkspace, working with different file formats for more creative and unique designs and scan your custom designs. Class will cover the cutting of paper to create personalized cards, gift boxes and much more. You will be making a 3-D project to take home. Bring your ScanNCut with all accessories, including power cord, flash drive, and a laptop

Using your Scan N Cut-Vinyl

Learn techniques for using iron-on vinyl on cloth, glass and plastic. Cutting of other materials such as foam, thicker paper, thin wood and other unique materials will be discussed. Use and care of mats will also be included. Options for creative take home project to make and take home will be available. Bring your ScanNCut with all accessories, including power cord.
